典㓝伐（又作[敲-高+(曲/八)]同丁繭反廣雅典主也下胡經反形罸罪也昜曰𠛼法也井為𠛼法也春秋元命苞曰𠛼字從刀從井井以飲人人入井爭水陷於泉以刀守之割其情欲人有畏慎以全身命也故字從刀從井）。

典㓝伐 (also written [敲-高+(曲/八)]; both diǎn in fanqie: 丁 + 繭. The Guangya says: “Diǎn means to oversee.” The following character xíng in fanqie: 胡 + 經. It means punishing crimes. The Yijing says: “Penal law is a standard; the well [jǐng] provides penal law.” The Chunqiu yuanmingbao says: “The character 刑 [punishment] is composed of knife [dāo] and well [jǐng]; the well is used to give people drink, but when people enter the well and fight over water, sinking into the spring, one guards it with a knife to sever their passions and desires, making them fearful and cautious so as to preserve their lives. Hence the character is composed of dāo and jǐng”).
