諠諍（上毀袁反聲類云諠譁也顧野王云諠譁也文字典說從言宣聲也下責更反顧野王云諍者今以為爭也字書云爭諫也考聲云諍猶爭言也說文云爭止也從言爭聲也）。

Clamour and contention (諠諍: the first character [諠] is fanqie 毀袁 [xuān]. The Shenglei says: "諠 means clamour." Gu Yewang says: "諠 means noisy shouting." The Wenzidian shuo says it is formed with the speech radical [言] and 宣 as phonetic. The second character [諍] is fanqie 責更 [zhèng]. Gu Yewang says: "諍 is nowadays used as 爭 (contend)." Character dictionaries say: "To remonstrate." The Kaosheng says: "諍 is like arguing words." The Shuowen says: "To stop by disputing." It is formed with the speech radical [言] and 爭 as phonetic).
