"Fresh Chinese quince (生樝)" (ce and jia in fanqie [zhā]; the mingzha [Chaenomeles speciosa], resembling the wubo; in shape as large as a bowl, with an astringent and sour taste, not to be eaten in quantity. The text of the treatise writes 査, which is not the standard character).
