"Three pungencies (三辢)" (the Ziyuan writes 萩, identical; lu and ge in fanqie [là]; the Tongsu wen says: "Extremely acrid is called là." In Jiangnan they say là; in the Central Plains they say xīn [pungent]. The text of the treatise writes 刺 [thorn/piercing], meaning discordant and perverse; 刺 is not the correct character form).
