Shoots and sprouts (栽[檎-离+辛]: the first character has the fanqie 則才, *zāi*; the second is anciently written in the three forms 𣡌, 㮆, and 木, now written as 櫱, all with the fanqie 五割, *è*): The *Erya* states: '㮆 means remainder, or to bear; it refers to a tree's leftover growth that sprouts renewed shoots (*zāi*).'
