搔蛘（桑勞反說文搔刮也搔亦抓也經文作瘙桑到反疥也下餘掌反說文搔蛘不搔是也字從虫從羊今皆作癢經文作痒似羊反字林痒病名也痒非此義也）。

Sāoyǎng 搔蛘 (scratching an itch) (Sāo is pronounced with the fanqie 桑 + 勞. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Sāo 搔 means to scrape; sāo also means to claw.' In the sūtra text written as 瘙, with the fanqie 桑 + 到, which means scabies. The latter character is pronounced with the fanqie 餘 + 掌. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Sāo 搔 means itching, not scratching.' The character has the insect radical and sheep phonetic; nowadays commonly written as 癢. In the sūtra text written as 痒, with the fanqie 似 + 羊; the Zilin says: 'Yáng 痒 is the name of a disease', so yáng 痒 is not the correct meaning here).
