襲持（古文㦻同辭立反襲受也廣雅襲及也亦仍也子孫襲祿是也左傳凡師輕曰襲注曰掩其不備也又夜戰曰襲也）。

Xichi 襲持 (ancient character 㦻, pronounced identically as 辭立 [xí]). 襲 means to inherit / receive. The Guangya says: '襲 means to reach; it also means to continue,' as in descendants inheriting (xi) official emoluments. The Zuo Commentary says: 'Whenever an army advances swiftly and lightly without heavy baggage, it is called xi (a surprise raid).' The commentary says: 'Taking them unprepared.' It also says: 'Night battles are called xi.'
