Sacrificing one's life (殉命; the first character is fanqie 旬 + 俊. Jia Yi's Fu on the Owl says: 'The covetous man sacrifices himself for wealth; the man of principle sacrifices himself for fame.' In the Book of Han, Minister Zan says: 'To follow after external things with one's body is called 殉.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'It takes 歺 as semantic classifier and 旬 as phonetic.' 歺 is pronounced 兢).
