Cataracts and blindness 瞖瞑 (the upper has the fanqie yi-ji [ʔei]; the Yunlüe says: “Screening of the eye is called 瞖.” The lower has the fanqie mi-ping [mieŋ]; the Zuozhuan states: “The posthumous name given was Ling; not closing his eyes in death, it was called Cheng, and then he closed his eyes.” The Shuowen jiezi says: “瞑 means closing the eyes; neither character is derived from the radical 目”).
