宮㓝（居雄反淫㓝次死也男女不以義交者其㓝宮男子割勢婦人幽閇於宮下真經反罰罪也易也㓝法也井為㓝法也春秋元命包曰㓝字從刀從井井以飲人人入井爭水陷於泉以刀守之割其惰慾人畏慎以全命也故字從刀從井也）。

Castration 宮㓝 (the upper has the fanqie ju-xiong [kioŋ]; it is the punishment for sexual misconduct, second only to death. If men and women engage in illicit intercourse, their punishment is castration: for males, severing the genitals; for females, confinement in the palace. The lower has the fanqie zhen-jing [t͡sieŋ], meaning punishment for crime; it also means to alter; 㓝 means law; 井 [well] serves as 㓝 [law]. The Chunqiu yuanmingbao says: “The character 㓝 is derived from 刀 [knife] and 井 [well]. A well is used to give drink to people; when people enter a well they vie for water and sink into the spring, so guarding it with a knife cuts off their lazy desires, causing people to be cautious so as to preserve their lives. Hence the character is derived from 刀 and 井”).
