禳災（上弱羊反說文云磔禳祀除厲殃也古者燧人醟子所造考聲祭以除禍也謝也說文從示襄聲也）。

Averting calamity (禳災: the first character has the fanqie *ruo* [ɲ-] + *yang* [-aŋ], [rang]. The Shuowen jiezi says: "A sacrificial rite of dismemberment to eliminate pestilence and misfortune. In antiquity it was instituted by the Suiren Rongzi." The Kaosheng says: "To sacrifice in order to remove disaster; it means to avert." The Shuowen jiezi says: "Derived from 'cultic sign' (示), with *xiang* (襄) phonetic").
