Pardoning and excusing (赦宥: 赦 is pronounced *she* [ɕia]; 赦 means to set aside. The second character has the fanqie *yu* [ʔ-] + *jiu* [-əu], [you]. 宥 means to be lenient. The Rites of Zhou speaks of three pardons: first, pardoning ignorance; second, pardoning errors; third, pardoning forgetfulness).
