髦鬣(上音毛廣雅云髦大也說文云髮也從髟毛聲下廉輒反杜注左傳云鬣須也顧野王云鬣者馬頂上長毛也說文𩬊鬣也從髟鼠聲髟音必遙反鼠音同上譜文作𮤅非也)。
髦鬣 [forelock and mane] (The first character is pronounced 毛 [máo]. The Guangya says: '髦 means large.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Hair; derived from 髟 with 毛 as phonetic.' The second character has the fanqie 廉輒 [liè]. Du Yu's commentary on the Zuo zhuan says: '鬣 means whiskers.' Gu Yewang says: '鬣 is the long hair on top of a horse's head.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Long facial hair; derived from 髟 with 鼠 as phonetic.' 髟 is pronounced with the fanqie 必遙 [biāo]; 鼠 has the same pronunciation as above. In the text of the Pu, it is written as 𮤅, which is incorrect).
