聲覃（澹南反毛詩傳云覃長也又云延也說文長味也從[日/(凵@中)/〡]從鹹省作[宋-木+(?/屮)]大篆從西作覃略也今俗用下從𤰞者誤也[日/(凵@中)/〡]音吼從曰從𱒅非[晃-儿+〡]字也）。

聲覃 (pronounced dan-nan fan. The Mao commentary on the Shi[jing] says: “覃 [tan] means long; it also says extending.” Shuowen says: “Prolonged flavour; derived from [日/(凵@中)/〡] with 鹹 abbreviated as [宋-木+(?/屮)]; in the Great Seal script it is written from 西 as 覃, which is an abbreviation.” Vulgar usage nowadays writing the lower part as 𤰞 is erroneous. [日/(凵@中)/〡] is pronounced hou; it is derived from 曰 and 𱒅, not the character [晃-儿+〡]).
