鷹鷂（上憶矝反杜注左傳云鷹鷙鳥也集訓云能制伏眾鳥也御覽云鳥之勇銳者名之為鷙下音曜顧野王云鷂似鷹而小說文亦鷙鳥之屬形聲字）。

Yīngyào (鷹鷂, hawk and sparrowhawk; the upper [character] is yīng, fanqie [yì + jīn]; Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan states: "The yīng (hawk) is a predatory bird." The Jixun states: "It is able to subdue various birds." The Yulan states: "The valorous and fierce among birds are called predatory birds." The lower [character] has the sound yào. Gu Yewang states: "The yào (sparrowhawk) resembles a hawk but is smaller." The Shuowen also states: "It belongs to the category of predatory birds"; it is a phono-semantic character).
