噓唏（上希居反鄭注禮記云噓𭊌[佫-口+思]之聲[佫-口+思]音敗顧野王云口出氣經曰噓下許冀反言唏痛也哀而不泣曰唏說文二字並從口虛希皆聲）。

噓唏 [sigh and sob] (The first character has the fanqie 希居 [xū]. Zheng Xuan's commentary on the Liji says: '噓 is the sound of deep gasping.' [佫-口+思] is pronounced 敗 [bài]. Gu Yewang says: 'Exhaling from the mouth; the canonical texts say 噓.' The second character has the fanqie 許冀 [xī], meaning crying in pain. To mourn without shedding tears is called 唏. The Shuowen jiezi says that both characters are derived from 口, with 虛 and 希 as their respective phonetics).
