Caps and head-turbans (冠幘): The upper character is [read with the fanqie] 古歡. The Baihu tong states: 'A cap (冠) means to roll up (卷), by which one rolls up and holds the hair.' The Guangya lists eighteen kinds of caps: the so-called wuzhui, zhangfu, weimao, muyu, mian, tongtian, yuanyou, jinxian, gaoshan, fangshan, huiwen, tonghua, quefei, quedie, xiezhi, pibian, and mian—all of these are caps. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A cap means to roll up; it is the general term for rolling up the hair into caps and ceremonial crowns. It takes 冖, 元, and 寸 as radicals. Since caps conform to standardized measurements, it takes 寸.' The lower character is [read with the fanqie] 爭革. The Guangya says: '䌯, 㠼, and 幘 are turbans; 幘 means interlaced.' The Fangyan says: 'Covering the topknot is called a 幘 towel; it is also called a chenglu.' Cai Yong's Duduan states: 'The 幘 turban was worn by low-ranking servants who handled business beneath caps. There were fringed turbans and red turbans; whether noble or base, those handling business wore them. Civil officials had long side-flaps, and military officials had short side-flaps, matching their respective caps.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A cloth bound within the hair is called a 幘. It takes 巾 as radical and 責 as phonetic.' [曰/(口*干)] is pronounced 吁. 絻 is pronounced 問. 豸 is [read with the fanqie] 宅介. 冕 is pronounced 免. 卷 is [read with the fanqie] 厥阮. 䌯 is [read with the fanqie] 丘園. 蚚 is pronounced 欣. 靖 is [read with the fanqie] 七藥. 嫧 is pronounced 責. 髻 is pronounced 計. 冖 is pronounced 覓. In the text of the register, it is written with 竹 as 簀, which is incorrect.
