踐蹋（上錢演反毛詩傳云踐行貌也杜注左傳云踐厭也鄭注論語履也下談臘反顧野王云蹋即蹵也蒼頡篇踶也廣雅履也說文云亦踐踐亦蹋也二字並從足戔[日/羽]聲也[日/羽]音上同踶音提也經文作蹹非也）。

踐蹋 (upper character: *qian* + *yan* fanqie; the *Mao shi zhuan* says: '踐 describes the appearance of walking.' Du's commentary to the *Zuo zhuan* says: '踐 means to tread down.' Zheng's commentary to the *Lunyu* says: 'To tread.' Lower character: *tan* + *la* fanqie; Gu Yewang says: '蹋 is the same as 蹵 (to kick/trample).' The *Cang Jie pian* says: 'To kick.' The *Guangya* says: 'To tread.' The *Shuowen* says: '踐 is also to trample; to trample is also to tread; both characters are derived from 足 with 戔 and [日/羽] as phonetic.' The pronunciation of [日/羽] is the same as above. The pronunciation of 踶 is *ti*. In the sūtra text it is written as 蹹, which is incorrect).
