鎔鍊（上勇慵反考聲鑄金法也漢書猶金之在鎔治之所鑄說文冶金器法也從金容聲也下力鈿反古文作柬亦作煉考聲精擇也韻集鑠金也說文冶金也從金柬聲也柬力賤反經從東作鍊非練字也）。

鎔鍊 (róngliàn; the upper character has the fanqie 勇慵 [róng]; the Kaosheng says it is the method of casting metal; the Hanshu states: 'Like metal in the mold, shaped by the casting'; the Shuowen jiezi says it is the method of smelting metal vessels; it is composed of 金 [metal] with 容 [róng] giving the sound; the lower character has the fanqie 力鈿 [liàn]; in ancient script it is written as 柬, and also as 煉; the Kaosheng says it means to select with refinement; the Yunji says it means to smelt metal; the Shuowen jiezi says it means smelting metal; it is composed of 金 [metal] with 柬 [jiǎn] giving the sound; 柬 has the fanqie 力賤 [liàn]; in the sūtra it is written with 東 as 鍊, which is not the character liàn meaning refined silk).
