跳躑（上庭寮反韻英跳躍也韻詮跳踉也蒼頡踊也廣雅上也說文蹶也從足兆聲又音天吊反或作趒趒越也亦通下呈劇反顧野王曰躑躅重局反驟愁瘦反舉足而不進也史記曰騏驥之躑躅不知駑馬之疾步說文躑躅住足也或作蹢從足從鄭聲也）。

跳躑 (tiàozhí; the upper character has the fanqie 庭寮 [tiáo]; the Yunying says it means to leap; the Yunquan says it means to jump up; Cang Jie says it means to bound; the Guangya says it means to ascend; the Shuowen jiezi says it means to stumble; it is composed of 足 [foot] with 兆 [zhào] giving the sound; it also has the fanqie 天吊 [tiào]; it is also written as 趒, meaning to leap over, which is also accepted; the lower character has the fanqie 呈劇 [zhí]; Gu Yewang says: 'To stamp or hesitate [zhízhú]', with the fanqie 重局 [zhú] and 愁瘦 [zhòu], means to lift the foot without advancing; the Shiji states: 'A fine steed hesitating cannot match the rapid stride of a hack'; the Shuowen jiezi says that zhízhú means halting one's steps; it is also written as 蹢, composed of 足 [foot] with 鄭 giving the sound).
