重疊（長龍反下亭叶反蒼頡疊重也廣雅厚也宋忠注太玄經疊積也顧野王曰疊明也說文古理獄官決罪三曰得其宜乃行之故從三曰晶從宜作疊王莽以三曰太盛改為三田作疊經作疊變體字也）。

Overlapping layers (重疊: [the first character is] pronounced 長 + 龍 fanqie; the second character is pronounced 亭 + 叶 fanqie; Cang Jie says: 疊 means repeated/double; Guangya says: thick; Song Zhong's commentary on the Taixuanjing says: 疊 means accumulated; Gu Yewang says: 疊 means clear; Shuowen says: ancient judicial officials decided cases according to the principle that 'deliberating thrice achieves propriety, and only then is punishment carried out'; thus it is composed of three yue [曰] forming 晶 and takes 宜 to form 疊; Wang Mang changed the three yue [曰] as being overly flourishing into three tian [田] to write 疊; the sūtra writing it as 疊 is a variant form).
