Teal and wild goose [鳧鴈] (The first character has the fanqie fu + wu [輔無反]. Guo [Pu's] commentary on the Erya says: "Fu [鳧] is a duck [鴨]." The Kaosheng says: "The smaller of wild ducks. Character dictionaries classify it under the bird radical with ji [几] phonetic; ji is pronounced shu [殊]; the short feathers of birds flying ji-ji-like, a phono-semantic compound." The second character has the fanqie yan + jian [顏莧反], or written as 雁, which is identical. The Mao edition of the Classic of Poetry says: "The large are called hong [鴻], the small are called yan [雁]; they are birds that follow the sun." The Shuowen jiezi says: "The goose belongs to the category of geese").
