文揣 ("Literary appraisal"): The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 初 + 委 (chuǎi). Guo's commentary on the Fangyan states: 'Chuǎi means to calculate.' The Shuowen jiezi states: 'It means to measure; it takes the radical 手 (hand) and 耑; it is an ideogrammatic compound.'
