To mock him (fanqie: zhe + jiao; the Cang Jie wen states: "Zhou is like tiao [to tease]." Gu Yewang states: "Chao means playful teasing." The Shuowen jiezi writes it with radical kou [mouth] and zhou as 啁; the Kaosheng writes it with radical yan [words] as 謿. In the text of the catalogue it is written with radical kou [mouth] as 嘲; they are identical characters).
