廛[朿-木+夭]（上徹連反郭注周禮云廛謂城邑之居也說文從广里從八土广音儼下奴教反字書云吏人多櫌櫌也考聲云人諠多也古今正字云不靜也從人從[一/巿]會意字也錄作閙俗非也）。

廛[朿-木+夭] (the first character is *ch[è]-lián* fanqie; Guo [Pu]'s commentary on the *Rites of Zhou* says: “*Chán* (廛) refers to a dwelling in a city.” The *Shuowen jiezi* says it is composed of 广, 里, 八, and 土; 广 is pronounced *yǎn*. The second character is *n[ú]-jiào* fanqie; character dictionaries say: “Officials and people being numerous and unsettled.” The *Kaosheng* says: “People making noise in great numbers.” The *Gujin zhengzi* says: “Not calm. It is composed of ‘person’ (人) and [一/巿], being an associative compound character.” The catalogue writes it as 鬧, which is vulgar and incorrect).
