誚劇（上字書正從言作譙與樵同音孔注尚書云誚猶讓也蒼頡篇云訶也說文從言肖聲下擎逆反顧野王云劇猶甚也蒼頡篇云篤也古今正字從刀豦聲也）。

誚劇 (the first character in character dictionaries is correctly written with the ‘speech’ radical as 譙, homophonous with *qiáo* (樵). Kong [Anguo]'s commentary on the *Book of Documents* says: “*Qiào* (誚) is like reproaching.” The *Cangjiepian* says: “Scolding.” The *Shuowen jiezi* says it is composed of ‘speech’ (言) with *xiào* (肖) as phonetic. The second character is *q[íng]-nì* fanqie; Gu Yewang says: “*Jù* (劇) is like extreme.” The *Cangjiepian* says: “Severe.” The *Gujin zhengzi* says it is composed of ‘knife’ (刀) with *jù* (豦) as phonetic).
