蔓延（上韈販反毛詩傳云蔓亦延也廣雅云長也說文云蔓葛屬也從艸曼聲曼音万延戈仙反正字也）。

蔓延 (The first character has the fanqie wa4-fan4. The Mao commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: '蔓 also means to spread or extend.' The Guangya says: 'It means long.' The Shuowen jiezi says: '蔓 belongs to the creeping plant class; it is derived from cǎo [艸] with màn [曼] as phonetic.' 曼 is pronounced wàn. For 延, with the fanqie ge1-xian2, this is the correct character).
