Eunuch official of Wei (魏閹官: the first character is pronounced *yan* + *yan* [yān]. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Rites of Zhou* says: 'Eunuch officials refers to palace gatekeepers who serve in the inner court.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Formed from the "gate" radical (門) with *yan* (奄) as the phonetic component.' 閽 is pronounced *hun* [hūn]).
