Mallet-shaped hairbun (椎髻: the upper character is zhí + zhuī [chuí]; the lower is jī + yì [jì]; Zheng's commentary on the Yili says: "髻 means bound hair." Gujin zhengzi: "Derived from 髟 with 吉 as phonetic; 髟 has the sound bì + yáo [biāo]; 椎 is derived from 木 [wood].").
