剖析 (The first character is *pu* + *kou* [fanqie]. Du's commentary on the *Zuozhuan* says: "剖 means to divide in the middle." Gu Yewang says: "析 means to split open." The *Shuowen* [says]: "To cleave wood; composed of the knife radical with 咅 as the phonetic." 咅 is *tu* + *kou* [fanqie]. The second character is *xing* + *yi* [fanqie]. The *Shenglei* says: "析 means to chop open." The *Shuowen* [says]: "析 means to cleave wood; composed of the tree radical and the axe radical 斤; another explanation is to pare.")
