Snapping and lifting (拗舉: the first character is pronounced *wu* + *jiao* [ǎo]. The *Wen zi ji lüe* says: '拗 means the hand breaking or snapping something.' The second character is the correct character 舉 [jǔ]. The *Kaosheng* says: '舉 is like recommending or raising aloft.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Raising together; it is formed from the "hand" radical (手) with *yu* (與) as the phonetic component.').
