槩曰（該代反鄭注禮記曰槩猶平也漢書云比有節槩亦謂量可平也說文從木既聲）。

Generally speaking (槩曰: pronounced *gai* + *dai* [gài]. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the *Book of Rites* says: '槩 is like leveling (平).' The *Book of Han* says: 'Compared with possessing moral integrity (節槩), it also means an amount that can be leveled.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Formed from the "tree" radical (木) with *ji* (既) as the phonetic component.').
