髦彥（上音毛毛詩傳曰髦俊也郭注爾雅云士中之俊如毛中之毫髦也廣雅選也說文髮也從髟毛聲下言扇反考聲云美士也士必有文故從文從彡）。

Eminent and talented men (髦彥) (the first character is pronounced *mao* [毛] / The commentary on the *Mao Poetry* states: "*Mao* means outstanding" / Guo Pu's commentary on the *Erya* states: "The outstanding among scholars are like the finest tress among hair, hence *mao*" / The *Guangya* says: "Chosen" / The *Shuowen* says: "Hair; it takes 'hair' [radical] and *mao* as phonetic" / The second character has the fanqie *ŋ-jenH* [言扇反] / The *Kaosheng* says: "An accomplished scholar; a scholar must possess culture, hence it takes 'culture' and 'hair/feathers' [radicals]").
