閹竪（上奄炎反下殊主反鄭注周禮云閹精氣閉藏者今謂之官人說文豎也宮中閽閼閉門者也從門奄聲豎從臤豆聲序作竪俗字）。

閹竪 Palace eunuchs (the first character is pronounced [in fanqie] 奄 + 炎; the second is pronounced [in fanqie] 殊 + 主; Zheng's commentary on the Zhouli says: "An 閹 is one whose seminal essence is locked away; today they are called palace men." The Shuowen says: "豎 means a palace gatekeeper or door-closer; formed with 'gate' (門) as semantic and 奄 as phonetic; 豎 is formed with 臤 and 豆 as phonetic;" the preface writes it with the popular character 竪).
