峭峻（上蹌醮反說文作陗云峻也從阜肖聲記中作峭俗字通用也下荀駿反孔注尚書云峻大也說文陗也從山夋聲正作）。

Steep and towering (the upper character is pronounced with the fanqie 蹌醮 [tsh- + -iɛu = tshiɛu]. The Shuowen jiezi writes it 陗, saying: "Steep; composed of 阜 with 肖 as phonetic." In the Record it is written 峭, a commonly accepted popular form. The lower character is pronounced with the fanqie 荀駿 [s- + -iun = siun]. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: "峻 means grand." The Shuowen jiezi says: "陗; composed of 山 with 夋 as phonetic; properly written [峻]").
