Ten thousand boats (万[梡-元+(火/、/又)]): [the second character has] the fanqie 嫂勞 [sāo]. The Wenzi jilüe states: '艘 refers to the count of boats.' The Shuowen jiezi states: 'A general term for watercraft.' Composed of 木 ('wood') with 叜 phonophore. In transmission, written with 舟 ('boat') as 艘, which is a vulgar character.
