為蹬 (making steps / tread: deng1 [to climb] + deng4 [to step] fanqie. The Guangya states: 'Deng (蹬) means to step.' The Kaosheng writes it as 隥, also meaning to step or tread upon, or to face upward. The Shuowen jiezi states: 'It takes 𨸏 as radical and deng1 as phonetic.' In the transmission written with 足 as 蹭隥, meaning the appearance of losing one's footing, which is not the meaning here).
