聰叡（上七公反韓詩云聰明也察也說文從耳怱聲下榆惠反說文云叡智也聖也或從土作壡籀文字也論文作睿古字也從𣦻從目從谷省𣦻音殘也）。

Intelligent and sagacious (聰叡, the first char. fanqie: 七公; the Han Commentary on the Shijing says, '聰 means clear of hearing; it means discerning.' The Shuowen jiezi says it is formed from 耳 with 怱 as phonetic. The second char. fanqie: 榆惠; the Shuowen jiezi says, '叡 means wise; it means sagacious.' Sometimes it is written with 土 as 壡 in the large seal script. The treatise text writes it as 睿, an ancient form, formed from 𣦻, 目, and 谷 abbreviated; 𣦻 has the sound 殘).
