Personally spying [親覘] (勅 plus 焰 fanqie. Du [Yu]'s commentary on the *Zuo zhuan* states: "覘 means to spy out." Zheng's commentary on the *Liji* states: "It means to peep [闚]." The *Shuowen* has it with 'see' [見] and 占 phonetic; 闚 is pronounced 企 plus 唯 fanqie).
