Zaofu (造父: [造 is] cao-dao fan [zào]. The Mao commentary on the Shijing says: “Zao means to make.” Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the Yili says: “Zao means to create.” Du [Yu]'s commentary on the Zuozhuan says: “It means to accomplish.” The Shuowen [jiezi] says: “Formed with 辵 ('walking') and gao phonetic.” 辵 is chou-lüe fan [chuò]).
