Elk-tail whisk (麈尾: [麈 is] zhu-yu fan [zhǔ]. Guo [Pu]'s commentary on the Shanhaijing says: “The zhu resembles a deer but is larger.” The Shenglei says: “Its tail can be made into a duster.” The Shuowen [jiezi] says: “Formed with 鹿 ('deer') and zhu phonetic.” In the text of the treatise, written with 土 as 塵 is an error).
