角試（上江岳反禮記孟冬豫武習射御角力顧野王云角力猶競爭勝負也呂氏春秋云角試也漢書角力而拒之也圖記中從車從交作較非此用也毛詩傳云卿士之車飾也說文云車輢上曲鈎也雖相承傳用大錯誤也非下尸二反說文試用也虞書曰明試以功從言式聲）。

角試 (the upper character is jiang and yue in fanqie. The Liji says: "In the first month of winter, practice martial arts, train in archery and charioteering, and contest in physical strength [jueli]." Gu Yewang says: "Contesting in physical strength means vying for victory or defeat." The Lüshi chunqiu says: "Contest [jue] and test." The Hanshu says: "To contest in strength and resist them." In the Tuji it is written with 車 [cart] and 交 as 較, which is inappropriate for this context. The Mao commentary to the Shijing says: "An ornament of a grandee's carriage." The Shuowen says: "A curved hook above the chariot railing." Although traditionally transmitted and used, it is a gross error. The lower character is shi and er in fanqie. The Shuowen says: "To try and use." The Book of Yu says: "Clearly testing them through achievements." It is composed of 言 [speech] with 式 phonetic.)
