缹如朱之鼈（上方又反上聲字也考聲云火熟也若羹而無汁曰缹古今正字從火缶聲缶音甫狗反下鞭滅反說文水介蟲也言朱鼈者呂氏春秋云醴水中蟲名為朱鼈一說云其蟲背上有白珠身如珠色故名朱鼈說文從黽敝聲敝音毘袂反）。

缹如朱之鼈 (the first character is *fang* + *you* in fanqie [fǒu], a rising-tone character; the *Kaosheng* says: 'cooked over fire; something resembling broth but without liquid is called 缹'; the *Gujin zhengzi* has it from 火 (fire) and 缶 phonetic; 缶 is *fu* + *gou* in fanqie [fǒu]; the second character is *bian* + *mie* in fanqie [biē]; the *Shuowen* says: 'an armored aquatic creature'; speaking of the vermilion turtle, the *Lüshi chunqiu* says: 'A creature in the Lishui River is named the vermilion turtle'; another explanation says: 'On the back of this creature there are white pearls, and its body is of pearl color, hence it is called the pearl turtle'; the *Shuowen* has it from 黽 and 敝 phonetic; 敝 is *pi* + *mei* in fanqie [bì]).
