Qilin and hornless deer (麟麕; the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 栗珍. The Gongyang zhuan says: "The lin is a benevolent beast." It is also written with 𠫤 as 𪊭 with the same meaning, already explained above. The Shuowen says: "It takes the radical 鹿 with 粦 as phonetic"; 粦 is sounded 隣. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 俱雲. The Gongyang zhuan says: "Having the appearance of a large stag but without horns, this is it." The Shuowen gives it with the radical 鹿 and 囷 as phonetic; 囷 has the fanqie sound 區筠. In large seal script it is written with 禾 as 麋, and also written as [鹿/若], with identical sound and definition).
