椎匈（上墜追反字書或作鎚玉篇云椎所以擊物也說文從木隹聲論文作搥非也下勗恭反考聲齊也說文從勹凶聲也）。

椎匈 (The upper [character] is zhui + zhui [chuí]. In character books it is also written as 鎚. The Yupian says: "椎 is that with which one strikes things." The Shuowen [notes that it] derives from 木 [wood] with 隹 as phonetic. In the treatise it is written as 搥, which is incorrect. The lower [character] is xu + gong [xiōng]. The Kaosheng says: "The chest/breast." The Shuowen [notes that it] derives from 勹 with 凶 as phonetic.)
