麰[麩-夫+來]（上墨侯反下賴該反劉熈注孟子云麰麥有兩縫者也今齊北河特多春種夏熟廣雅麰大麥[麩-夫+來]小麥也說文麰從麥牟聲古今正字云[麩-夫+來]從麥來聲或作[麩-夫+(來*來)]字書作䅘與論同）。

Barley and wheat (麰[麩-夫+來]: the former is *mou* [*móu* / mò hóu]; the latter is *lai* [*lái* / lài gāi]. Liu Xi's commentary on the Mengzi says: 'Mou is wheat with two seams; today it is especially abundant north of the River in Qi, sown in spring and ripening in summer.' The Guangya says: 'Mou is barley; [麩-夫+來] is wheat.' The Shuowen says: '麰 is [derived] from 麥 with a 牟 phonogram.' The Gujin zhengzi says: '[麩-夫+來] is [derived] from 麥 with a 來 phonogram; sometimes written [麩-夫+(來*來)].' Character dictionaries write it 䅘, identical to the treatise).
