婉娩（上紆阮反下音晚毛詩傳云婉從也鄭玄云婉謂言語從也娩之言媚也謂容貌也古今正字並從女宛免皆聲）。

婉娩 Gentle and compliant: the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 紆 + 阮; the second is pronounced 晚 (wǎn). The Mao Commentary to the Classic of Poetry says: '婉 (wǎn) means compliant.' Zheng Xuan says: '婉 refers to speech being compliant; 娩 (miǎn) speaks of charm, referring to one's countenance.' The Gujin zhengzi states both characters take the woman radical (女); 宛 and 免 are both phonetic.
