刳命 [slaughtering lives]: The first character is read with the fanqie ku + gu. Gu Yewang says: 'Ku means to empty out its belly.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'To cleave apart; composed of knife (刀) with kua (夸) as phonetic.'
