Ashamed and apprehensive (慙惕: [First character] zá-hán fan; the Shuowen [jiezi] states that cán means ashamed, and is composed of 'mind' [心] with zhǎn [斬] phonetic. [Second character] tiān-lì fan; Kong's commentary on the Shangshu states that tì means fearful. The Mao commentary on the Shijing states that tì means grieved; dāo is pronounced dāo. The Shuowen [jiezi] states it is composed of 'mind' [心] with yì [易] phonetic).
