Soaring roc (翾鵬): [The first character is pronounced] *xue* + *xuan* fan. The Shuowen jiezi says: 'A small insect flying. It is formed with [the semantic classifier] wings (羽) and the phonetic component *xuan* (睘).' The second character is pronounced *pu* + *teng* fan. The Zhuangzi says: 'In the Northern Darkness there is a fish named K’un. The K’un transforms into a bird named P’eng (鵬).'
